Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya, were not peripheral outposts of some distant empire. They were centres of a civilisation that built vast reservoirs, carved rock fortresses into the sky, and produced Buddhist art of a quality that stopped scholars in their tracks centuries later.
This journey is for the traveller who wants more than a photograph of Sigiriya. It's eight days of genuine immersion, moving slowly through the north-central plains, spending real time at each site rather than ticking boxes, finishing in Kandy, the last of the great Sri Lankan kingdoms, where the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha has been held for over three hundred years.

- Witness the evening puja at the Temple of the Tooth Relic, a ceremony that has continued uninterrupted for centuries, the casket bearing the Buddha's tooth paraded before the faithful

The route, step by step
- Day 01
Day 1. Arrival & the Ancient North
Land in Colombo and transfer north toward the Cultural Triangle, arriving in the heart of ancient Sri Lanka by evening.
- Day 02
Day 2. Anuradhapura, the First Kingdom
A full unhurried morning at Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka's first great capital and UNESCO World Heritage site, the dagobas, the living Bodhi tree, the scale of a two-thousand-year-old city.

Day 3. Sigiriya, the Fortress in the Sky
Early climb of King Kashyapa's rock fortress: the water gardens, frescoes, mirror wall, and the palace ruins at the summit. The rest of the day is yours.
- Day 04
Day 4. Polonnaruwa, the Second Kingdom
Explore the concentrated ruins of Polonnaruwa beside its ancient artificial lake, with the rock-cut Buddhas of Gal Vihara, including a fifteen-metre reclining figure, as the highlight.
- Day 05
Day 5. Dambulla & the Road to Kandy
Morning at the Dambulla cave temples, 2,000 square metres of painted ceiling and 150 Buddha statues, then the drive south to Kandy by late afternoon.
- Day 06
Day 6. Kandy, the Last Kingdom
Kandy's Temple of the Tooth Relic, the evening puja if timing allows, and wandering the market, lake, and bazaar of the last independent royal capital.
- Day 07
Day 7. Kandy at Your Own Pace
A genuinely free day. Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, the Kandy Cultural Show, or simply exploring the city on foot with your guide.

Day 8. Departure
The drive back to Colombo airport, timed around your flight.
