Tea country in the Sri Lankan hill country at first light
FAQs

Good questions

The things travellers ask us most. Can’t find yours? Just ask — our inbox is always open.

Where should I go in Sri Lanka?

Honestly, where do we begin? It depends on you. Beach people head south to Galle, Mirissa and Hiriketiya; culture lovers do the ancient cities and Kandy; the hill country is for tea, trains and cool air; and Yala is leopard territory. Have a browse through our Places guide, or just ask us. Matching travellers to the right corners of the island is the whole reason we exist.

What do you recommend for a first-time Sri Lanka trip?

Our Island Highlights journey is the one we designed for exactly this, ten days that touch the Cultural Triangle, Kandy, the tea country train, a safari and the south coast. It's the full story of Sri Lanka in one trip, at a pace that never feels rushed.

Is Sri Lanka a good destination for first-time Asia travellers?

One of the best. It's compact, friendly and English is widely spoken. With a private guide and driver, all the logistics disappear, you just get the good parts: the food, the landscapes, the people.

When is the best time to visit Sri Lanka?

There's no bad time. The island has two monsoon seasons that affect different coasts. December to April is best for the south and west coasts and the hill country; May to September is the season for the east coast, Trincomalee and Arugam Bay. We'll point your itinerary at whichever side is shining.

Can you help create a custom itinerary?

Absolutely, that's our favourite kind of trip. Our set journeys are starting points, not scripts. Fill out the contact form with a rough idea of dates, interests and pace, and we'll shape something around you.

How does the booking process work?

Pick a journey, tell us how many of you are travelling, leave any notes plus an email or phone number, and send it through. There's nothing to pay at that point, we come back to you within 24 hours to talk dates, details and tailoring, and only confirm once everything feels right.

Do you book flights?

Not at the moment, our journeys are land only, starting and ending in Sri Lanka. We're happy to advise on the best routes and arrival times from New Zealand, and we'll coordinate every pickup around your flights.

Do you only offer luxury travel?

No, most journeys come in Signature, Luxury and Bespoke tiers. Signature uses excellent four-star properties; Luxury steps up to the island's finest hotels; Bespoke is fully built around you. Same guide, same care, whichever you choose.

Can you cater for families, couples, or groups?

All of the above. Every journey is private, your own guide and vehicle, so the trip flexes around nap times, honeymoons or a group of mates. Tell us who's coming and we'll shape the pace to match.

How much should I budget for a Sri Lanka trip?

Our journeys start from around NZD $3,200 per person for a week-plus private trip (two travelling, land only), up to around $6,000+ for the sixteen-day Grand Tour. Food, entrance fees and personal spending on top are modest by NZ standards. Sri Lanka is generous value.

Do you personally operate the tours?

We design and arrange every journey ourselves and partner with one of Sri Lanka's most established operators on the ground, with hand-picked guides we know by name. You deal with us before, during and after.

What happens if I need support while travelling?

You'll have a 24/7 local contact in Sri Lanka plus us back home in New Zealand. Anything from a missed connection to 'can we add another safari?', one message and it's handled.

Do I need travel insurance or a visa?

Yes to both. Comprehensive travel insurance is essential, and most visitors need Sri Lanka's electronic travel authorisation (ETA), which takes a few minutes online. We'll send you a simple checklist when you book.

How far in advance should I book?

Two to four months ahead is the sweet spot, especially for December–February and the best boutique hotels. That said, shorter timeframes can still work, if your dates are close, get in touch and we'll tell you honestly what's possible.
